(Un)predictable Risks? A Workshop on Safety in Field Research
All fieldwork projects entail risks to researchers' wellbeing. These risks are individual for each project and depend, for instance, on the researcher's positionality, the social context, and the research methodology. Safety aspects should thus be considered at all stages of fieldwork and be treated as an integral part of research preparation, as well as of research practice.
In this workshop, we will increase awareness of the importance of researcher safety throughout the research process, provide hands-on tools to identify and engage with risks relevant to each participant's research project, and provide room for reflection and a platform for exchange about methodological issues relating to safety in one’s own project.
Please, be aware that the workshop addresses topics that might be emotionally challenging, including illnesses, injuries, (sexualized) violence, emotional unsafety, etc. Please contact the workshop organizers if you require more information (team@saferfieldworkproject.de)
